The Central System and the Hollywood Regional Connector

The Central System consists of ten lines, nine of which originate from or run through the Hollywood Regional Connector. Four of the ten lines connect two regional cores. There are three east-west corridors (Hollywood, Santa Monica, & Wilshire Boulevards) and five north south corridors (La Cienega, La Brea, Western, Vermont, and Alvarado-Sunset).

Four lines - the Purple Line, the Westwood-Santa Monica "Pink Line", the Silverlake-Glendale, & the Western-Slauson - should be given construction priority due to: (a) the distance of their reach; (b) their tapping of large, currently under-served districts; and (c) their potential to allow future projects to "piggyback" on the infrastructure they establish. All subsequent lines constitute infill and should be built as priority dictates.

Initial Build-Out:

The heart of the Central System is the Hollywood Regional Connector (HRC), a tunnel loop under La Brea, Hollywood, Highland, and Sunset. All inbound trains enter the upper La Brea tunnel through three portals (East, West, & South) and proceed in one direction to the Hollywood/Highland Station. The eight lines entering the HRC run on four lanes of track, one for every two lines. Other than the Red Line, all trains departing from the Hollywood/Highland station run in a single outbound direction.

Prior to their exit via the lower La Brea tunnel, outbound trains will be sorted according to their respective exit portals by a network of right of way tunnels. This will prevent congestion and improve flow by eliminating all crossings of different direction lines.

UPDATE: I replaced the original sideways first image with this more conventional version.

I come up with $6.5-7 billion.

OK, how much for just the Pink Line, the Westwood and the Hollywood Regional Connectors, and the Expo Sepulveda/Venice alignment?
